Yellow Speed Coilovers Review – Should You Buy Them?

Yellow Speed Coilovers Review

Did you know that there are over 40 brands of coilovers to choose from on the market today?

With such a big number all making similar products, how do you know which are good?

In this post, I’m going to go over Yellow Speed, a coilover brand that have been slowly making a name for themselves.

About Yellow Speed

Yellow speed was founded in Taiwan back in 2003, and in 2009 was set up with as a joint venture with Mr. Christopher Nell who met the owner of Yellow Speed a couple of years prior at a drifting event.  This is the company known as Yellow Speed Racing, based in Texas, USA.

This allowed Yellow Speed to combine manufacturing in Taiwan with engineering and R&D from America, allowing them to produce low cost coilovers that met the market demand.

Yellow Sport also themselves compete in motorsports in Asia such as the TCR Taiwan championship.

Along with coilovers, they also sell air bag kits, big brake kits, hydraulic handbrakes and more.

About Yellow Speed Coilovers

Yellow speed coilovers

Yellow Speed offers a wide range of coilovers starting from the Dynamic Pro Sport which is their entry-level option, all the way up to Advanced Pro Plus racing coilovers which feature inverted dampers and 2-way adjustable dampening.

The Dynamic Pro Sport is their cheapest and most popular product, and is designed for street use with occasional track days. Selling for around $1000 depending on the model, that puts them in direct competition with BC Racing BR Series, as well as other coilovers like A’PEXi N1 ExV’s.

All Yellow Speed coilovers are height adjustable by the shock body, meaning the suspension retains full travel at all ride heights, and gives you the option to set spring preload (which comes set from factory). This also allows you to properly corner balance the car.

Ride height is lowered from 0.5 inches (12mm) to up to 4 inches (100mm) depending on the model. If you go for the Super Low option, you get from up to 5 inches (130mm) lower than factory, and the highest setting is 0.8 inches (20mm).

The dampers are 33-level dampening adjustable, which users report does make a big difference and takes the coilovers from feeling close to factory to being super stiff at the highest setting.

Applicable models (MacPherson strut) come with camber adjustable pillow-ball strut mounts with radial bearings for the front and rear, while some kits come with hardened rubber bushings to reduce noise.

The lower brackets on MacPhersion strut models are made of steel for extra rigidity and are electroplated/anodized to prevent corrosion. On double A arm models, the lower bracket is made of forged alloy aluminium.

Basically, they come with all the features you’d expect at this price range, which makes them very similar to the competition.

Yellow Speed do claim however, that they are valved differently to other Taiwanese coilovers like BC Racing, and that their spring rates are spec’d differently.

They also offer a 24 month warranty which is one of the longer warranty periods when it comes to coilovers.

Just be aware that Yellow Speed coilovers are build to order, and can take 2-4 weeks depending on the model.

So, Are Yellow Speed Coilovers Any Good?

From all the reviews I can find, the answer is yes, Yellow Speed coilovers are good.

Despite not being as popular as some of the other brands like BC Racing, a lot of people have used Yellow Speed coilovers and all the reviews I could find were positive. The ride is good, they go well on the track, they eliminate body roll, all good things you want to hear about coilovers you are looking to buy.

The only thing I could find was a report of a BRZ owner who’s set didn’t come with end links, which is not necessarily a problem unless you need to replace yours. Including them would have been a nice touch, but I don’t think that’s a deal breaker.

All in all, I’d say that Yellow Speed coilovers are a safe bet and will be a decent purchase if you are looking for coilovers that will provide both a comfortable street ride and do well at the track.
