If you are looking at coilovers in the upper end of the price range, ZEAL is a name that is going to pop up.
Though not quite as popular as some other coilover brands like KW and Ohlins, ZEAL does have a reputation for creating some very high quality suspension kits.
However, they are definitely up there in terms of cost. So the question is, are they worth the money?
Let’s find out.
About ZEAL
ZEAL is actually owned by ENDLESS, a Japanese brake manufacturer which was founded in 1986 and have been making high quality brake kits ever since.
Within 1 year of being founded, they had 70% of the racecar brake pad market share in Japan, which is an impressive feat.
Ever since, they have been competing in motorsport and making parts for racecars as well as performance cars for street and track use.
In 1994, ZEAL was established as a division of ENDLESS to produce suspension and other parts.
In 2004 they created their X-Coil coil springs which are used on their coilovers and are designed to be very responsive and consistent, to give accurate feedback to the driver.
They make a selection of coilovers ranging from comfortable street use to track and race specific models.
All their parts are made by them in Japan to ensure the highest quality.
About ZEAL Coilovers
ZEAL currently make a number of coilover kits for different purposes from road to track.
ZEAL will also custom make a coilover kit to your specifications. So if you can’t find exactly what you need and you want the highest quality kit, ZEAL will make it for you.
Here are some of their most popular models.
Function-Xs
The Function-Xs is ZEAL’s entry level coilover and is designed primarily for comfortable street use while still offering a sporty ride.
They feature both height and dampening adjustment, with ride height adjustment done by the shock body, and are available with either 6-level or 30-level dampening adjustment.
The feature ZEAL’s special X-Coil springs, lightweight aluminium strut mounts and on MacPherson strut type models, inverted monotube dampers.
These coilovers can also be revalved and rebuilt, and ENDLESS have a facility in California that will do this.
Function-X
The Function X coilovers are the next step up and are designed for track use.
The feature the X-Coil springs, ride height adjustment by the shock body, 30-levels of dampening adjustment and are designed with performance in mind.
Made to be super lightweight, these coilovers will significantly improve the car’s handling and give you the option to fine tune your suspension for the track.
Function T
The Function T’s are similar to the Function Xs but have a few distinct features.
These coilovers are designed to be extra rigid and corrosion resistant, featuring nickel-boron plated steel for the shock bodies. This makes them much more resistant to corrosion and will ensure your adjustment brackets never get seized.
They are also highly customizable and come with with either the X-Coil Springs or the X-R Coil springs which are designed specifically for track use.
They also come with either 6-way or 30-way dampening adjustment and the ability to select custom spring rates.
MacPherson strut models use inverted monotube dampers.
Function A
The Function A’s a re a highly customizable coilover designed for maximum performance.
They feature full aluminium bodies which are nickel-boron plated, giving them a rigid structure and high resistance to both high temperatures and abrasion. Because the boron is low friction, it allows for more direct damping action.
These coilovers come with optional X-Coil-R springs which are designed for maximum responsiveness and consistency on the track, and work well with the super light weight characteristics of these coilovers.
They are available in both 6-way and 30-way dampening adjustment, as well as custom spring rates.
MacPherson strut models feature an inverted monotube damper design.
Super Function
The Super Functions coilovers are designed for users looking to get the most from the semi-slick tires.
They feature a special aluminium “circuit spec”, DIV free piston which stabilizes compression and rebound levels and increases damper life.
Pillow ball top mounts are included in this kit.
All Super Function coilovers feature normal monotube dampers, and are available in either 6-level or 30-level adjustable dampening.
Are ZEAL Coilovers They Worth the Money?
ZEAL coilovers are definitely on the upper end of cost when it comes to coilovers, with the lower priced models starting around $2500 and going all the way up to $5000+.
The question is, are they worth the money, especially when there are so many “budget” coilover options available?
The vast majority of comments, reviews and information about these coilovers I can find is positive, with many people who have bought ZEAL coilovers saying they are definitely worth the money, and you can see and feel that they are significantly higher quality than most other coilovers.
They offer an amazing ride on the street, great handling on the track, and are super light.
So, while they are one of the most expensive coilovers you can get, they are definitely one of the best quality you can get, so you won’t be disappointed if you spend the money.
