A quick guide on how to remove the door cards and rear panels (for 2+2) on a Nissan 300ZX Z32 (Fairlady Z).
Tools you’ll need:
– Phillips screwdriver
– 10mm socket
– 14mm socket for seat belt bolt
– Flat head screw driver or prying tool.
Removing the Front Door Cards
In order to remove the door card, you will need to remove the following screws:
2x Phillips head/10mm bolts inside the grab handle
Then you need to carefully pry out the panel with the window switches from the rear first. Once it’s out, flip it over and uplug it:
Then you’ve got another 10mm socket under that switch panel (this one doesn’t have a Phillips head):
Next you have 2 Phillips head screws on the front most edge of the door card (towards the door hinge):
Next you need to remove the 3 screws holding in the seat belt trim piece:
Then that plastic piece slides off towards the rear of the door, which opens a gap for the seatbelt to be slid through when removing the door card. The trim piece around the seatbelt slides upwards up the seatbelt.
Now, on the outside of the door with the window down, you need to pop out the circle trim cover:
Which will reveal a Phillips head screw that needs to be taken out. You’ll need to look upwards into the hole to see it. Be careful with this one as you can easily lose it in the door:
Now you need to undo the top seatbelt bolt. Pop the cover off by pulling on it upwards, then use your 14mm socket and undo the bolt. Be careful not to lose any of the washers and spacers:
Next pull the cover behind the seatbelt bolt up and out:
Then there are two Phillips head screws:
Last you need to remove the trim around the door handle and lock. Pry it off from the rear while holding the door handle open to allow it to come off:
Now you need to pop out the clicks holding the bottom of the door card in. Try and get your fingers between the door card and the door and pull outwards along the bottom:
Now you can pass the seatbelt through the slit, and lift the back of the door card up:
Pull the whole door card outwards and it should pop right off:
You might find that some of your clicks have come off the door card and stayed in the door. Just remove them from the door and glue them back onto the door card:
To remove the passenger door, its exactly the same process except you also have to remove the grab handle. Pop the two screw covers off (you should be able to do it with your fingers):
Them remove the two Phillips head screws that hold the handle on:
Then pull that handle out. The rest is exactly the same as above.
Installation is just a reversal of this process.
Removing the Rear Panels
To remove the rear panels you first need to remove the rear seat base. Pull up on the seat base to release it, push the buckles through the holes and then slide it out:
Now you need to remove the 10mm nut under the seat back. This one is a little tricky to get to so you will probably need to use a spanner:
A 10mm bolt down by where the edge of the seat base was:
And a 10mm bolt at the top of the panel (you may have to flip the seat back down to get access to it):
Now release the front of the panel by popping it out towards the inside of the car:
Now you should be able to slide the panel out towards the front of the car. Make sure the seatbelt is out of the way (there is a little gap to pass it through), and you may have to fold the seat back down about half way to get the panel out:
That’s it, your door cards and panels should now be out of the car. Installation is just the reverse of this process.
