Are you looking to buy coilovers for your BRZ?
Originally released in 2013, the Subaru BRZ was an immediate hit with car enthusiasts worldwide.
Made as a joint effort between Subaru and Toyota, it was designed to be a light and fun sports car that handled well. It came in at just the right time, as sports cars like these were becoming rather rare.
Naturally, this made it a very popular car immediately, and the aftermarket got to work on providing parts to further improve the performance.
While the BRZ handles pretty well with the stock suspension, one of the best upgrades you can do to your BRZ is to install a set of coilovers, which will really bring the best out of the suspension setup and make your BRZ look even better.
In this post, I’m going to give you the best coilovers for the BRZ currently available, so that you can get the right kit for your car.
The Best Coilovers For the Subaru BRZ
BC Racing BR Series
The BC Racing BR Series coilovers are possibly the most popular coilover kit on the planet, and the reason why is because they fantastic value for money. They give you a great ride, fantastic performance, a wide range of customization options and all for a little over $1000.
The only thing they don’t have that the previous two kits above do is the ability to upgrade them if you decide you need more features, but to be fair, this isn’t necessary for most people.
Other than that, it’s really hard to beat the BR Series kit for street setup. There are a huge number of people running these coilovers worldwide and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, from daily drivers to track and drift cars and even slammed show cars.
Whether you are looking to race, ride in comfort on the road or get your car laying frame, BC Racing will customize the kit to your requirements to make it happen.
The BR Series kit offers ride height adjustment by the shock body, 30-level dampening adjustment (compression/rebound simultaneous), camber plates on applicable models, extreme low option to go even lower, Swift Spring upgrade and more.
Taking this all into consideration, it’s hard to find another kit that offers better value for money.
Unless you need a track specific setup or want the option to upgrade later on, there is really no reason not to buy these coilovers.

Fortune Auto 500 Series
Designed to be “the last coilover kit you will ever need to buy”, the Fortune Auto 500 Series give you several features few other coilover kits offer.
What makes them special is that they are modular, meaning they can be upgraded to a higher spec such as 2-way independent dampening adjustable with external reservoirs.
Fortune Auto has designed them so that when the time comes where you need more from your suspension, you don’t have to buy a whole new kit. Instead, just send yours in to them and they will upgrade them.
Fortune Auto have also put a huge amount of effort to ensure every coilover that leaves their facility is built to the highest quality. Every single damper is dyno tested and matched in pairs to within a 3% tolerance.
Along with that, they also hand assemble every single kit at their facility in Virginia, USA. This means that they can also make a custom kit to suit your exact needs.
The 500 Series have 24-level rebound dampening adjustment and ride height adjustment is done by the shock body, which gives you 1-3 inches of lowering on the standard kit and up to 5 inches on the Super Low kit.
These coilovers are designed to offer a comfortable street ride while being able to handle track use, and they have proven to do this well. You’ll find loads of positive reviews about these coilovers online.
If all this wasn’t enough, Fortune Auto also offer a 5 year warranty on these coilovers, proving how much they stand behind their products.

Ohlins Road & Track
Ohlins coilovers are undisputedly some of the best in the world, with Ohlins having a long history of motorsport success and only making very high quality kits for a select range of cars. Luckily for BRZ owners, they make a kit for your car.
While the Ohlins Road & Track kit is definitely not cheap, it is one of the best kits you are going to get, especially that will give you the perfect balance between road and regular track use (thus the name Road & Track).
Designed to give you a comfortable ride and excellent handling performance, they feature 20-level adjustable dampers which allow you to quickly switch between road and race settings using Ohlins’ special Dual Flow Valve technology.
The ride height on the Road & Track kit is done by the shock body, which ensures you get full suspension travel at all ride height settings, making for a more comfortable ride, longer lasting dampers and the ability to corner balance the car.
If you want the best coilovers for both road and track that you can get for the BRZ, this kit is for you.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustment by the shock body
- 20-level dampening adjustment using Ohlins Dual Flow Valve (DFV) technology
- Monotube dampers
- Corrosion salt spray tested to ISO 9227 standard
- Rebuildable
- 2 year warranty
KW V3
The KW V3 is an ultra popular coilover kit that is meant to be in the same league as the Ohlins Road & Track above.
KW have been making suspension for a long time, with a very successful history in motorsport. They were the first company to get a complete suspension kit approved by the German Technical Control Board back in 1995.
Ever since, they have been making high quality suspension for both OEMs and for the aftermarket.
Their coilovers are well known for their extremely good resistance to corrosion, being made of their special “inox-line” stainless steel shock bodies along with composite spring perches. This system ensures that they will never rust or seize, even in the harshest weather.
The V3 kit is designed to be the perfect blend for those who want a comfortable street ride but also plan on doing regular track days.
Now, reportedly they are a bit of the softer side when compared to the Ohlins, but KW do sell stiffer springs if you find that is the case and want to stiffen them up.
The V3 coilovers offer 2-way individual compression and rebound adjustment, which allows you to fine tune the dampers exactly as you like, and quickly change between road or track settings when needed.
The ride height adjustment on the V3’s is done by the spring perch, which means that the lower you go, the less travel is left for the shock. KW do have a recommended lowering range, but if you want to go lower, you risk blowing the dampers early and voiding the warranty. So keep this in mind if you are planning to go low, these may not be the best coilovers for you.
The V3 kit is perfect for people who are looking for suspension to handle street and track use and want to prioritize ride comfort. They are also a great choice in areas that have harsh winters.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustment by spring perch
- 2-way independent dampening adjustment – low speed compression and rebound
- Made in Germany
- Specifically tuned for each vehicle
- INOX-LINE stainless steel shock bodies
- Extremely good corrosion resistance, salt spray tested for 220 hours
- TUV approved
- Limited lifetime warranty
- Rebuildable (but must be sent to Germany)
HKS Max IV SP
HKS is no stranger to the aftermarket performance parts world, having made the first ever aftermarket turbo kit and many more quality parts since.
The MAX SP IV coilover kit is their performance oriented setup which is designed to provide maximum handling while still keeping a comfortable ride.
If your BRZ is going to be seeing a lot of track days, these HKS coilovers are a great choice. HKS have specifically engineered this setup to pair with high grip tyres and provide maximum feeling and response for the driver to ensure you have complete control over your car.
The dampers are monotube and feature a special needle design to increase the ride comfort at all piston speeds, along with a larger M shaft for improved ride quality.
The ride height adjustment is done by the shock body and the dampers are 30-level adjustable.
If you want coilovers that will handle track use while giving you a great street ride, these coilovers are perfect and have a renowned name behind them.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustment by the shock body
- 30-level dampening adjustment
- PNE anti-corrosion coating
- Monotube dampers with special needle and larger M shaft
- Aluminium brackets and adjusters for unsprung weight reduction
- Rebuildable by HKS
- Pillowball strut mounts with camber adjustment
Silvers Neomax
The Silvers Neomax are very similar to the Fortune Auto 500’s but are slightly cheaper.
Like the Fortune Auto’s, the Silvers Neomax also are designed to be modular and can be upgraded to 2-way independent adjustment with external reservoirs when the times comes.
Also like Fortune Auto, Silvers dyno tests every shock to ensure they are within a 5% tolerance, or they scrap the internals. This is done to ensure only the best quality dampers make it into a coilover kit and out the door.
Silvers will also build you a fully custom kit to your specifications, and pride themselves on the fastest turn around time in the industry, which is 10 days even for custom kits.
While they are made in Taiwan (as are many coilovers including BC Racing), Silvers has their own facility where they make, test and assemble their coilovers. They don’t outsource like most other companies.
The Silvers Neomax are ride height adjustable by the shock body and also offer 24-levels of dampening adjustment.
Overall, they are very similar to the Fortune Auto 500’s, except that they come with a slightly shorter warranty of 18 months (which is still decent and longer than most brands give you).
While the Silvers have less reviews due to less people running them than the Fortune Autos, reviews are overwhelmingly positive for these coilovers making them an excellent buy for the BRZ.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustment by the shock body – lowers 1-3 inches on the standard kit and 2.5-5 inches on super low kit
- 24-level dampening adjustment
- Upgradeable to 2-way independent dampening adjustment with external reservoirs
- Hand assembled and dyno tested
- High viscosity IP F.A. 5W damper oil
- Monotube dampers
- Linear piston with digressive valving for maximum response
- Pillowball aluminium strut mounts with camber adjustment
- Unique non-slip locking collars
- 18 month warranty
TEIN FLEX Z
Quite possible the best coilover kit under $1000, the TEIN Flex Z’s are a fantastic choice for anyone on a budget.
What’s special about this kit is that they are designed and made in Japan, at TEIN’s Yokohama facility, and TEIN actually makes each kit specific to the location it is being sold to, to ensure the buyer gets the best kit possible for the conditions their car will see.
These coilovers have twin tube dampers which TEIN have chosen to give the most comfortable street ride, but have also included special damper oil designed to withstand intensive driving so that you can still use them at the track.
TEIN have also used their special patented green powder coat and ZT coating on these coilovers to ensure corrosion resistance in any weather. TEIN claim that with over 500,000 kits sold, they have not had a single complaint due to seizing.
While these coilovers are not rebuildable, the damper inserts are replaceable. If you blow your dampers and need to replace them, you just order new dampers and swap them in.
This means that you don’t need to send your kit in for a rebuild and wait for it to be returned in order to drive your car. TEIN will also custom valve the damper inserts to your specs if you ask them to.
This is easily one of the best kits you are going to find for under $1000, and if your car is going to be primarily a road car with occasional track use then Flex Z’s are the way to go.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustable by the shock body – lowers front 0-2.3 inches and rear 0.2-3.4 inches
- 16-level dampening adjustment
- Twin-tube dampers for more street comfort
- Special damper oil with anti-foaming properties to withstand intensive driving
- No-sag springs
- Special TEIN powder coat and ZT coating for maximum corrosion resistance
- Pillowball strut mounts with camber adjustment
- Damper inserts replaceable and can be custom valved
- 1 year warranty
Megan Racing EZ
Another excellent budget option is the Megan Racing EZ kit.
Even cheaper than the TEIN Flex Z’s, and thought not quite as good, the Megan Racing coilovers still have an incredible amount of positive reviews despite the very low price tag.
Designed primarily as a street coilover, they are made to allow you to lower your car on a budget and retain a comfortable ride. However, I have also found many reports of people using these on the track and for autocross events with good success.
Having proven themselves on both street and track, these coilovers are a fantastic budget build option which have a wide range of features including ride height adjustment by the shock body, dampening adjustment, aluminium strut mounts and more.
They also come with a 1 year warranty so you can be sure you won’t have any issues any time soon.
If you are on a tight budget and can’t stretch it for the TEIN Flex Z’s, the Megan Racing EZ kit is a good option.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustment by the shock body
- 15-level dampening adjustment
- Aluminium strut mounts
- Monotube dampers
- 1 year warranty
Godspeed MonoSS
Another excellent budget option, the Godspeed MonoSS have become the go-to budget coilover choice for many.
They have slightly more features to the Megan Racing EZ kit, and also have many positive reviews.
The MonoSS’ use 52mm dampers with a performance internal piston and racing grade shock oil with a high viscosity index, and the dampers are rebuildable or replaceable. The shock bodies are made from seamless carbon steel.
Ride height adjustment on these is done by the shock body, giving you full suspension travel at all ride heights.
They also come with a 1 year warranty, which is pretty impressive given the low price.
Overall, these are another good budget option for street cars, that have proven to last and have many happy customers.
Features include:
- Ride height adjustment by the shock body
- 16-level dampening adjustment
- Aluminium pillowball strut mounts with camber adjustment and Koyo Japan 6204z bearings
- Monotube dampers
- Performance internal piston and race grade shock oil
- Anodized shock bodies made from seamless carbon steel
- 1 year warranty
Solo-Werks S1
If you are really on a tight budget but you must have coilovers on your car, the Solo-Werks S1’s are going to be your best bet.
While these don’t have a lot of the features that the other kits on this list do, such as dampening adjustment and camber adjustable strut mounts, they make up for it with their seriously impressive quality at a ridiculously low price.
Selling for only $499, you would not expect much from these, but the truth is that they are a fantastic coilover kit that will offer a comfortable street ride and even handle occasion track use.
What’s even more impressive is that they come with a 3 year warranty, which is unheard of at this price level.
An interesting fact about Solo-Werks is that it was founded by ex-KW engineers, who used their knowledge and experience to make an incredibly impressive coilover kit for a very low price.
If you are looking for the cheapest possible coilovers for your BRZ, you are going to have a hard time finding anything better than the Solo-Werks S1’s.
Features include:
- Ride height lowering 1-2 inches (done by spring perch)
- Heavy gold zinc plated for maximum corrosion protection
- Larger 20mm damper shaft
- Vehicle specific springs with matching valving
- Bottle of lubricant for adjustment threads
- 3 year warranty
Conclusion
I hope this post has helped you select the perfect coilovers for your BRZ. I have done my best to include a kit that would meet everyone’s needs, regardless of budget or what you intend to use the car for.
