If you’ve been looking into buying coilovers no doubt you’ve come across the name Megan Racing.
Megan Racing’s ethos is to make parts that all car enthusiasts can afford, focusing on the lower priced end of the market. Unfortunately, this often means low quality, so how good are Megan Racing’s parts? Let’s find out.
About Megan Racing the Company
Megan Racing is based in California and was actually started by a guy who himself was trying to build a car on a budget – a 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo. Realizing that there was a lack of good quality parts at affordable prices, he decided to make his own, and Megan Racing was born.
Megan Racing have an R&D facility in California and are currently in the process of shifting most of their production of parts to the US, with the goal being 80-90%. From what I can find out online, their coilovers are produced in Taiwan by the same company that makes BC Racing coilovers (Bor-Chuann).
Overall the reviews I could find online from people that actually bought their parts and used them have been pretty positive. Some even reported using their coilovers for autocross and track use and they performed fine, holding up well and lasting a decent amount of time.
All the Megan Racing coilover shocks are able to handle a change of spring rate by either + or – 2kg/mm, which allows you to swap the springs out and get the ride just how you like it.
Let’s take a look Megan Racing coilovers in detail.
Megan Racing EZ I Coilovers
The Megan Racing EZ I coilovers are their entry level coilover for Asian and American vehicles.
They feature a monotube shock, offer height adjustability and have 15-way dampening adjustability and are designed to be used with the OEM strut mounts to help increase ride comfort. They also come with a 1 year warranty.
Unfortunately I was not able to find any definitive measurements on exactly how low they go, so if you are looking to really slam the car, I would probably go with a different coilover kit just to be sure.
Pros
- Very low price – Megan’s cheapest option
- Height adjustable by the shock body, so you can set spring pre-load and get more suspension travel at low ride heights
- 15-way dampening adjustable
- Using OEM strut mounts helps to increase ride comfort
- 1 year warranty
Cons
- No camber adjustment (due to using OEM strut mounts)
- Not really suitable for regular track use
Megan Racing Euro I Coilovers
The Megan Racing Euro I coilovers are basically the same as the EZ I coilovers but are made for European vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen.
They have many of the same features as the EZ I’s, also being designed to use OEM strut mounts to increase ride comfort (some vehicle kits come with rubber top mounts).
They also adjust height by the shock body which allows for greater suspension travel and gives you the ability to set spring pre-load, and they also have a monotube shock.

Megan Racing Street Coilovers
These are Megan Racing’s top of the line coilover for street/daily driver use which can also be used for the occasional track day.
These coilovers are noticeably more firm that stock suspension, however, users report that while the ride is still very good, the handling is significantly improved.
The springs are made from SAE-9254 Cold-Wound Steel which are then tested over 500,000 times by compression inspection to ensure that they are resistant to sagging and will stand the test of time, even on the track.
Most models also come with pillow-ball upper mounts with built-in camber adjustment, and some models come with additional parts such as sway bar end links, where necessary.
They also come with the 1 year warranty.
Pros
- Height adjustable by the shock body, so you can set spring pre-load and get more suspension travel at low ride heights
- 32-way dampening adjustable
- Pillow-ball camber adjustable strut mounts on most models
- Come with additional parts such as sway bar end links on some models

Megan Racing Spec-RS Coilovers
The Spec-RS coilovers are designed by Megan Racing for track use, and have extra features such as 32-way adjustable dampening which lets you adjust compression and rebound individually.
Like the other coilovers, they allow you to adjust ride height independent of the spring by adjusting the shock body, which allows for full suspension travel at all heights and lets you adjust spring pre-load as well as corner weight the car.
These also come with pillow-ball strut mounts with camber adjustment.
Megan Racing use their best quality parts for these coilovers to make sure that they can withstand abuse from being used on the track, so are perfect if you intend to be doing regular track days or racing events.
Pros
- Height adjustable by the shock body, so you can set spring pre-load and get more suspension travel at low ride heights, as well as corner weight the car
- 32-way dampening adjustable which can individually adjust the compression and rebound
- Pillow-ball camber adjustable strut mounts on most models
- Best quality parts used on this kit
- Stronger to handle track abuse
- 1 year warranty
Cons
- Stiffer ride, which may not suit some people for street use
- Not available for many vehicles
Megan Racing Track Coilovers
If you spend a lot of time at the track, these coilovers are for you.
Purpose built for track use, the Megan Racing Track coilovers are designed with performance and handling as a priority, and feature stiffer springs and more aggressively valved shocks that have a heavy duty piston. These coilovers are designed to compete with suspension systems that retail for twice their price and are designed as a true track setup.
Cons
- Stiff ride, which may not suit some people for street use
Megan Racing Swift Track Coilovers
The Swift Track coilovers are the same as the Track coilovers except for the fact that they also come with Swift Springs. The same springs offered on BC Racing coilovers, Swift Springs are Japanese made springs which are well known and widely used in motorsport from 24hrs of Le Mans to Formula Three and many other world class racing series.
Swift Springs’ advantages include:
- The most consistent spring rate throughout the stroke of the spring
- Lighter springs which react faster and smoother, and add less unsprung weight to the car
- Use thinner wire which allows for more stroke, giving the springs more travel and making them less likely to bottom out
- They don’t sag like many other springs. Swift Springs are within 0.5-1.0% of the spring rate they were when they were brand new – Even after a year of racing!
- Barrel-shaped rather than straight, which means they need fewer coils per inch for the same spring rate, meaning there’s less chance of coil binding
If you want the absolute best performing coilover Megan Racing has to offer, these are it.
Pros
- High quality springs which are lighter, react faster and smoother and won’t sag or lose their spring rate over time
- Height adjustable by the shock body, so you can set spring pre-load and get more suspension travel at low ride heights, as well as corner weight the car
- 32-way dampening adjustable which can individually adjust the compression and rebound
- Pillow-ball camber adjustable strut mounts on most models
- Best quality parts used on this kit
- Stronger to handle track abuse
- 1 year warranty
Cons
- Stiff ride, which may not suit some people for street use
- Not available for many vehicles
So, Are Megan Racing Coilovers Any Good and Should You Buy Them?
According to reviews from people who have bought them, yes, Megan Racing are decent coilovers for the price they are.
Now, we have to remember that they are still a “budget” coilover, at least the entry-level lines, so you have to be realistic with what you expect to get. However, they certainly seem to be one of the better coilover brands when it comes to low priced coilovers.
So, if you are on a budget, whether that’s for a daily driver or a budget track car, Megan Racing coilovers seem to be a good option from all accounts.
If you have money to spare and want the best possible coilover available, it’s probably best to look elsewhere.
Another Coilover Kit to Consider
If you are looking for coilovers under the $1000 mark, another excellent choice are Riaction Coilovers.
These coilovers are fantastic value for money, offering both street and track performance, customizability and even upgradeability.
Riaction are also known for their excellent customer service and the ability to service your coilovers very quickly (4-7 days).
Given that they are pretty much the same price as the Megans, my personal recommendation would be to go with Riaction as they are overall a better deal:
Where are Megan Racing parts made?
Megan Racing coilovers are currently made in Taiwan by the same company that makes BC Racing coilovers.
How Do You Adjust a Megan Racing Coilover?
On Megan Racing coilovers, the ride height is adjusted by winding the shock body up and down, which gives your full suspension travel at all heights. It also allows you to adjust spring pre-load, which is done by winding the spring perches up or down. Dampening adjustment is done by turning the knob at the top of the shock.
Do Megan Racing Coilovers Come Preloaded?
Yes, Megan Racing coilovers come pre-loaded from the factory and should be used as-is. Ride height adjustment should be done by adjusting the shock body, not the spring perches (which will change the pre-load).
Are Megan Racing Coilovers Rebuildable?
No, Megan Racing coilovers are not rebuildable. However, you can buy replacement shocks from Megan Racing.
